Opportunities to Play Masters Hockey
For hockey Masters life begins at 35 (not 40), and the upper limit is constrained only by your ability and willingness to participate. In addition to playing masters, we also offer the opportunity to get involved in organising Masters activity in the Midlands Area, or to join the Midlands Masters Committee.
Midlands Masters Gatherings
For those interested in playing some mixed, social Masters hockey we offer monthly 'Gatherings' of like-minded players for all women aged at least 50 and all men aged at least 60 – if you’re only a couple of years away from qualifying, get in touch and we may be able to fit you in too!
Whether we can extend these events to younger Masters in the future is something that we can look into depending on demand. Similarly, we are open to any demand for some Masters activity to take place on the weekend. If you want to add to the demand for something that is not currently being provided, please get in touch via email: masterschair@midlands.hockey.
Represent the Midlands
The Midlands is one of the 8 Areas within England Hockey and we will normally enter a representative team in all of the annual inter-Area tournaments that take place after the regular season has finished. Those tournaments are organised in 5-year age brackets, from 35 upwards. If you are interested in being a player, captain, coach, umpire, selector, manager or administrator, please get in touch with a member of the Committee (listed below), or the relevant Masters contact on the Representative Teams page.
For elite players who wish to trial for the England Masters teams, the official pathway is to play for your Area and to then be nominated for trials based on your performance at the inter-Area tournament.

Midlands Masters Committee
Our Masters Committee (listed below) comprises a number of people prepared to devote some of their spare time to promoting, organising, and running Masters hockey events. We will always be happy to hear from anyone interested in helping out in any way, even if that does not involve taking up an official committee position. Elections to the Committee positions take place at each AGM, usually held in July.
Please email the Chair at masterschair@midlands.hockey if you have any interest in this area, or specialist skills that you can offer.
