Recognising Success
Following the conclusion of its England Hockey Officiation branch AGM, Tim Lorimer, Chair of Midlands Hockey presented awards to various umpires.
Jerry Yates was given the Volunteer of the Year award for his dedication in appointing umpires to Midlands League matches as well as various other competitions throughout the season.
The Umpire of the Year award, is given to the person with the best scores awarded by the clubs. It was pleasing to see four of the top five places going to women. In reverse order the top five were 5th Polly Roberts, 4th, Charlie Royle, 3rd, Evie Halsall, 2nd, Bradley Shough, with the winner being Donna Seager.
Since the reorganisation, a number of umpires have completed 100 or more outdoor appointments on behalf of Midlands Hockey. Milestone shirts were awarded to Ian Austin, Sam Bointon, Russell Davenport, Peter Dawes, Gordon Hampstead, Steve Hoban, Bill Holdforth, Jason Horne, Matt Jones, James Pennington, Richard Perry, Finn Pickard, Gary Poulton, Colin Reed, Graham Reynolds, Tom Roberts, Kishor Shah, Andy Townsend and Jerry Yates.
