Leek Mens First Team Double Promotion

Leek Men First XI

Leek have done it again!

Many congratulations to Leek Hockey Club and their Mens First XI who have obtained back-to-back promotions by winning the National League Conference Midlands this season, after their success in 2024/25 winning the Premier Division of the Midlands Hockey Adult League!

We asked the Leek HC about their success...

The achievement has been four years in the making. Since the return of Ben White as Lead Coach from Bowdon, a steady progression has seen them twice finish 3rd in the Midlands Premier League before becoming Champions last season. These League performances were supplemented by two consecutive National Cup Finals beating East Grinstead on their return to Lee Valley to become England Hockey Tier 2 Cup Winners in 2024.

The latest accomplishment is particularly impressive as the squad completed the entire League season unbeaten (winning 13, drawing 5 of their 18 games), a testament to their team spirit and resilience – only 1 of their final 14 league games was decided by more than 1 goal.

The team overcame challenges during the season including the loss of top scorer Ben White in November with a knee injury, along with Sam Shute and Max Evernett at Christmas for family reasons. However, the experience of key players Paul Nixon, Dan O’Neill, and captain Richard Cordon, helped guide an almost entirely home grown squad to a well earned title.

Many congratulations from all at Midlands Hockey!
