Laurie Alcock Award

Cheryl has been at the centre of Women’s Masters in the Midlands for a number of years, with MRHA and Midlands Hockey Ltd and has to take an enourmous amount of personal credit for the structure and organisation of the Women’s Masters squads that have played in the Regional now Area Tournaments from when the Regional tournaments started.

We doubt if there is anyone playing Midlands Masters today, except the younger groups who has not had experience of Cheryl’s team management and Midlands will definitely miss her. Some of her achievments include:

  • Involved for 19 Seasons
  • Mainly managed the O40’s but also covered the O55’s for a couple of seasons and has managed the O50’s for the last two seasons.
  • Around 2016/17 started to ensure all Women’s age groups got a first trial in October / November by organising a day of trials
  • Has always actively promoted Masters Hockey asking players to do the same, especially when social media became more prevalent in getting players to post about the trials and tournaments.
  • Was on the Masters committee for a season.
  • Always prepared to help with player queries etc
  • Organised the Saturday night fundraiser when the O40’s tournament was held at Cannock.

We are sure there are plenty of other achievements that Cheryl can be proud of and hopefully she will still be around to give advice if required to the new Midlands lead in the months to come.
